Capulin Volcano & The Great Sand Dunes (Colorado Trip--Part 2)

On the way to the camp in Colorado we stopped by the Capulin Volcano (in New Mexico). It was really cool to see all that lava erupting. Just kidding--it's dormant--I just wanted to be sure you were paying attention and not just looking at the pictures. ;o)

After that we went to the Great Sand Dunes National Park (in Colorado). Richard and I hadn't been in a few years...it got upgraded from a "national monument" to a "national park." We weren't able to get a room at "The Lodge" like we usually do (the only lodging close by), so we stayed at a hotel about 45 minutes away. Richard and Mama ("Mama" = my mom, "Mother" = Richard's mom) got up at the scrrrreeeech of dawn (3:45 am!!!) to go take pictures at the dunes. Evie, Mother, and I decided to sleep instead and check it out later in the day. At a glance, doesn't it look like Richard is somewhere in the Arctic instead of the sand?

Very cool!
Matt was there when he was little, but I have never been. It is about 3-4 hours away, but we really need to check it out some time!!!!!

I think that volcano photo is actually Mt. Arenal in Costa Rica. I have a similar photo from when I was there. I went to Mt. Capulin when I was about 7. I was scared it would erupt the entire time we were there.
