Evie's Dedication

On Father’s Day our church had Parent/Baby dedications. Basically, that is when Christian parents stand before the church body with their babies and promise to teach their children about the Lord and to seek Him in their own lives as well so they can be a godly example to their little ones. Baby dedication does not represent a guarantee of salvation for the baby. That is a decision they (we pray!) make for themselves later in life.

Our pastor wrote out a special prayer for each individual child and prayed over each one during the service. Evie was being her shy self, clinging to her Daddy, as she sometimes does when she’s out of her comfort zone. When Neil, our pastor, came to her, he looked at her and said, “Well, you’re just chillin’ there, aren’t you!” That’s our Evie! She’s quite the laid-back girl. In fact (side note) when I volunteered at our VBS last week, at one point I picked her up from the nursery so I could nurse her and she was the only baby not crying! She was in a swing, sucking that thumb, and “chillin.’”

After church we had friends and family over for a hot dog lunch to celebrate. It was a really fun time!

I was so glad to witness Evie's dedication and take it as a part of my responsibility to help you in your task of raising her to love the Lord as you are here to help me with Katherine.

If you email Neil, he will send you a copy of what he said, great for the scrapbook.

I loved your description of what a "Baby Dedication" is. We had one for Grace and 2 other babies in our house church last summer in our backyard. It was a nice time to reflect on what our role as parents is and to ask friends and family to help keep us accountable as we raise our children up in the Lord.
